HemoCue AB develops, produces, and markets medical diagnostic products for point-of-care testing. The fundamental concept behind the HemoCue products is to perform common blood and urine tests at the point-of-care without sacrificing the accuracy and precision offered by a central clinical lab.

The two inventors of the HemoCue system, Sven-Erik Nilsson and Jan Lilja started the work with the cuvette concept already in 1974.
Still, their systems are based on patented cuvette technology, unique reagent chemistry and analyte-specific instruments. The systems do not require mixing of reagents, dispensing, or pipetting. The instruments are factory-calibrated and all cuvettes are produced such that no adjustment for batch-to-batch variation is necessary. With a minimum of product training and instrument maintenance, this makes it possible also for staff without laboratory training to consistently perform tests yielding accurate results.

HemoCue is a company with few products, but many customers and market segments. Blood banks, medical offices in primary care, public healthcare screening programs, critical care departments in hospitals (emergency rooms, neonatal and adult intensive care units, operating rooms and post-operative care), dialysis clinics, diabetes clinics and outpatient surgery centers, all require tests for hemoglobin, glucose, or both.

Since the first of February 2007, HemoCue is owned by Quest Diagnostics (www.questdiagnostics.com). The HemoCue product line is sold in more than 120 countries through a highly effective organization consisting of independent distributor partners and subsidiaries.
